Women in Buddhism Online Workshops
This two-part series of online workshops builds on the 2023 Summer Institute on Women in Buddhism: Religion, Politics, and the Arts. Generously supported with a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), this 4-week in-person program conducted a multidisciplinary exploration of the complexity of women’s agency in Buddhist Asia, and its variations across both time and cultures. These online workshops—one focused on premodern Asia and the other on modern Asia—are designed to extend that exploration through teaching-oriented presentations on Buddhist women in China, Japan, Korea, and Tibet.
These workshops are free and open to undergraduate educators committed to infusing significant content on Asia into their humanities and social science courses. Each workshop will include two presentations, followed by a roundtable discussion of the challenges of teaching about women’s agency across historical and cultural differences, as well as strategies for creatively meeting those challenges.

Speakers:
- Kate Lingley (University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa)
- Lori Meeks (University of Southern California)
Workshop #2: Agencies of Modern Buddhist Women: Korea and Tibet
