Advanced Leadership Program

The Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) is not currently running.  Please check back on our website at a later date for any updates.  In the meantime, please fill out this form in order for us to collect information from individuals interested in the ALP.  We will use this information to determine interest and contact you should the ALP become open to application submissions in the future.

The Advanced Leadership Program is an opportunity for advanced professionals to reflect upon personal and organizational achievement while developing plans for the future.  Taking place at the East-West Center's campus in Honolulu, Hawai'i, the program typically runs for approximately 6 weeks and consists of 8-12 participants from diverse backgrounds and sectors. Participants engage in a self-designed program with substantial time given to independent work, research and exploration. Participants receive their own workspace in an East-West Center office and have the option of attending East-West Center seminars, activities with the Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP) and the East-West Center's fall Wednesday Evening Seminar series.

  • Flexible schedule for professionals who cannot leave their positions for longer than a short sabbatical
  • No limitations on part-time consulting, research or partnerships or obligations outside of the East-West Center
  • Self-designed space for individual career development and research, in addition to exploration of subject areas which fit individualized academic curiosity
  • Opportunities for professional networking with research fellows and visiting scholars at the East-West Center and other local think tanks
  • Joint sessions with the APLP and other East-West Center program participants

The Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) is intended for individuals with at least 12 - 15 years of professional experience, and who would like to reflect upon, refocus and re-energize their professional and/or organizational development.  Examples of ideal participants may include: Managing directors who need to take time away from their day to day schedules for strategic planning and visioning; advanced professionals who are considering a career shift and who would benefit from the opportunity to explore new options within a structured framework; or leaders with regional responsibilities who might wish to deepen and/or widen their understanding of leadership and current trends in the Asia Pacific region.
