Although poverty is a common and widespread phenomenon in much of Asia, the links between poverty and environment are not fully understood. The goal of this project was to help fill this knowledge gap with reference to air pollution, with insights gained from specific case studies applied to the wider region.
Research aimed to contribute to the introduction of Air Quality Management (AQM) policies that take into account the impact of air pollution on the poor and the manner in which the poor cope with air pollution. The project developed a conceptual framework of the linkages between urban air pollution and poverty in the Asian context, the coping mechanisms of the poor, and AQM policy mechanisms that can target poor people.
