Research Information Services (RIS) , the library for the East-West Center, supports the Center's research, education, and professional development activities. The collection managed by RIS features an interdisciplinary coverage of selected social, cultural, political, and economic development issues in Asia and the Pacific region. The collection focuses on subject areas which include population studies and demography, development economics, environmental policy, international relations, and regional governance. RIS supplements its specialized core of academic and statistical books with holdings of unpublished papers, not widely available, acquired from researchers, institutions, and governments in Asia and the Pacific region. The collection contains some 50,000 books, unpublished documents, periodicals titles, and on subjects and countries relevant to Center activities. In addition to managing its collection, RIS provides information services to staff, participants and, on a more limited basis, to members of the public. Services include mediated database and Internet searching, training in the use of databases and the Internet, interlibrary loan, and document delivery.
