2019 Asia Pacific Journalism Fellowships 2019 Asia Pacific Journalism Fellowships
Mar 21, 2019 - Mar 30, 2019

The 2019 Asia Pacific Journalism Fellowships, held March 24 – 30, took seven print, broadcast and online US journalists to Taipei and Taichung in Taiwan. The Taiwan program offered excellent opportunities for the US journalists to explore many important issues, particularly on cross-strait relations, US-China relations, US-Taiwan relations, and the media environment, all of which have significant impact in the region. They met with government, business, civic, cultural and religious leaders; scholars and students; NGOs; and local journalists and other community members and gained a better understanding of current political, economic, security, social and cultural issues in this country.

The highlights of the Taiwan program included the meetings with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Mainland Affairs Council, the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, the Institute for National Defense and Security Research, the Foundation for Women's Rights Promotion and Development; and the dialogue on new media and traditional media from US and Taiwan perspectives.

The East-West Center in Honolulu and the Ming Chuan University in Taiwan are the co-sponsors of this program.
