Ukrainian folk dance and culture; dance education and pedagogy

Allan Zablocki is the Arts Program Assistant for the East-West Center Arts Program. He has assisted with a variety of educational outreach, operations, exhibitions and performance programs with an Asia Pacific focus at East-West Center.

Allan was born and raised near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He holds an MFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and a BFA in Musical Theatre Performance from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. While living in Wisconsin, he taught and directed musical theatre at a variety of high schools in the Greater Milwaukee area. He also served as a choreographer and instructor for Dnipro Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, a nonprofit that focused on promoting and preserving Ukrainian culture and dance. While obtaining his MFA, Allan’s research and choreographic work focused on cross cultural education in dance pedagogy, how dance can serve as a form of resilience and healing during acts of war and violence in response to the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and the use of breath and respiratory health in dancers. He received the Halle Huhm Memorial Award for Excellence in Asian-Pacific Dance Research in 2023. Additionally Allan, is a current member of Shōshin Dance Company.
