The Chapter was established in 1990.
Faisalabad Chapter works closely with other chapters in Pakistan. The Chapter contributed about 200 conference bags to the Delhi Conference. A meeting was held at Lahore with the participation of all five chapter leaders to celebrate EWC and Pakisatan Day on March 18, 2007. Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim participated in a dinner hosted by the Jefferson Fellows Alumni Chapter visiting Pakistan. The Faisalabad Chapter is also organizing another meeting at Lahore during December 2007 where all five Pakistani Chapters will be invited to participate and plan participation in coming EWC events like the Bali Conference and the EWC Golden Jubilee Celebration during 2010.
For the quarter, Faisalabad is proud to report on the accomplishment of 2 projects that the chapter initiated 2-3 years ago. First, the project called “Community Tree Plantation” – where community parks and roadsides benefited from a variety of 300 flowering tree saplings (including Hawaii shower trees), fertilizers and pesticides that were donated by the Faisalabad chapter with the help of local community labor. The trees are now 10-15 feet high, providing beauty and greenery to the thankful community. Secondly, Faisalabad alumni two years ago, introduced vegetable home gardening to the local population and donated vegetable seeds and know how. This project became very popular and currently, almost every other home grow their own vegetables. Hawaiian papaya and passion fruit seedlings were provided by M. Ibrahim and the hermaphroditic nature of papayas account for their wide popularity.
The chapter donated 130,000 Pakistan rupees to flood affected victims and to other charity accepting organizations. The flood has devastated people’s lives, agriculture, livestock, roads and communication infrastructures. The chapter notes the suffering of the people in Pakistan and the need for the international community to help out.
Chapter Leader Muhammad Ibrahim donated his village residence to the community for the purpose of building a Girls School in the village where a majority of the people live below the poverty line. The Chapter will subsidize the expenditure spending towards the construction of the school and is requesting contributions from donors including EWC alumni.
In the interest of cleaning the atmosphere, the chapter planted trees last year and will be continued this year.
In a telephone meeting of the Chapter, congratulations to the EWC and EWCA 50th anniversary celebration was reiterated and re-affirmed with a consensus rating of “it was just beautiful.”
