October 2011 Chapter Report

The Chapter hopes to meet in November to discuss how the group can support the EWC Student Fundraising Goal. On September 19-21, 2011, the Singapore Chapter hosted a dinner to welcome back EWCA grantee professional dancer Garrett Kam (from Bali) who gave a lecture demonstration at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Symposium. The theme of the symposium: New Asian Imaginations: Researching the Arts in Southeast Asia. The Chapter supported the Symposium itself which was held in the Academy in downtown Singapore.

January 2012 Chapter Report

On the Student Scholarship Fundraising Project, the chapter hopes to meet in 2012 to discuss how they can support the fundraising event. The chapter had one activity this quarter: Chapter member Vivien Wong hosted a dinner for the 70’s-80’s grantees. The group was delighted to have a younger grantee, Mai Chu, and Pres. Ric Trimillos of the Executive Board join the dinner.

July 2011 Chapter Report

The Chapter listed 3 activities for this quarter: First, On Feb. 26, 2011, the EWCA Chapter in Spore was invited to join the alumni group from the University of Hawaii for a networking celebration in Singapore. The event was held at Clarke Quay and had as special guests, Dean Roley and June Naughton. Second, on March 29, 2011, EWCA alumnus Kirpal Singh was one of the panelists at an intercultural dialogue held at the Singapore Management University. Chapter members came to support the panelists. Third, the Chapter welcomed to Singapore, EWC APLP alumnus Andrea Merrigan from Ireland. The Chapter hosted a tea party to welcome her to her new teaching job.

April 2011 Chapter Report

Is pleased to report the following activities: 1) On February 4, 2011, a fellowship dinner of EWCA Singapore Alumni followed after a return dance performance of EWC Hawaii alumnus Garrett Kam. This was held at the Philatelic Museum. 2) On February 8, 2011, EWC alumnus Garrett Kam had a dance performance at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Playhouse attended by Chapter members and students from the Institute. 3) On April 20, 2011, the EWCA Chapter alumni joined the Fulbright Association of Singapore at their annual dinner with US Ambassador to Singapore David Alderman as Guest Speaker.

On the response to the 2 proposals: The Chapter will try their best to rally donations for the EWC via chapter donations. The Chapter is okay with the quarterly reporting and feels that keeping the flow of communications moving among chapters and the EWC is more important.

January 2011 Chapter Report

The Singapore chapter maintains contact with EWC alumnus from other countries who are working in Singapore. In April 2010, the group supported two events: 1) April 13th: after a dance performance by EWC alumnus Garrett Kam at the Asian Civilization Museum, afellowship dinner with the EWC Singapore alumni followed. 2) April 22nd: two members of the Chapter supported the Fulbright Associationat their annual dinner meeting. Four members of the chapter attendedthe July EWC Conference in Honolulu. In September and October, the chapter had dinner meetings with Garrett Kam who passed through Singapore and in November, with Indonesia’s Jusuf Sutarto.
