The Asia Pacific Leadership Program Fellowship (APLP) is the center of excellence for leadership education in the Asia-Pacific region and a signature program of the East-West Center.  Currently celebrating its 19th anniversary, the APLP has created a network of over 600 dynamic leaders in 45 countries who are helping to build a peaceful, prosperous and just Asia-Pacific community.

The APLP seeks outstanding individuals from all walks of life (government, business, NGOs, health sciences, media, monastic orders, and education) to participate in an innovative leadership development program with East-West Center’s Leadership Program team.  Generation 19 will begin on August 5, 2019 with an online launch before the cohort meets in Chennai, India from August 17-26, 2019 where they will take part in APLP sessions and attend the 2019 East-West Center Chennai Leadership Symposium, August 23-25. A big shout-out to our awesome alumni in Chennai: Shreya Nagarajan Singh, Phani Kumar, Sharanya Dilip, K Ramnath Chandrasekhar, and Devi Jessie Mary!! A core group of APLP alumni based in Tamil Nadu have been working closely with EWC staff to plan an engaging and educational program in Chennai that will introduce the APLP Fellows to the EWC ‘Ohana in India and to key issues in the region, as well as prepare them for their four-month leadership learning journey. They will return to their home countries to participate in an innovative digital module before joining regional specialists and leadership educators in a dynamic learning community in Honolulu, Hawaii (October-December).

The EWC Leadership Program’s mission is to cultivate leaders who are motivated and capable of creating positive impacts in the Asia Pacific region. By the end of the program, APLP Fellows are able to answer three key questions: What’s going on? (seeing systems and patterns); What action is needed? (identifying individual and collective short- and long-term work); and Where do I fit? (understanding role and influence).
