Who is eligible and what are the eligible countries?

The North Pacific Women's Action Program is open only to women above the age of 30 who are citizens of Yap and Kosrae in the Federated States of Micronesia, Ebeye in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau.  Candidates must be active in their communities and interested in creating and supporting positive local initiatives.  Candidates can have any education level; preferably with no prior experience insimilar training programs.

What if I am a citizen of either FSM, RMI, or Palau, but I live elsewhere?

In addition to citizenship, candidates must also be permanent residents of either the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, or the Republic of Palau in order to be eligible for nomination.  The purpose of the program is to create positive social change in local communities within FSM, RMI, and Palau, therefore program participants must be established, permanent residents of their local communities in order to fully engage in the program.

Do I need to send academic transcripts or English language proficiency scores with my application?

No.  Academic transcripts are not required in order to apply for this program.  Likewise, TOEFL and IELTS are not required in order to apply for this program.  Candidates should be proficient in spoken English - however English literacy (reading) is not critical.  English language proficiency will be determined by the Selection Committee during the interview stage.

How can I tell if my nominee is an ideal candidate for this program?

The North Pacific Women's Action Program is intended for women who are able and interested to participate in a four-day, active workshop, including travel to and from the workshop venue; willing to engage with other women and work together to explore ideas and possibilities for community action and change; women who are known for "helping things happen" or "getting things done," and who tend to provide often unseen background support for community or social activities; established in their local communities and planning to remain in their communities; curious and interested to try new techniques, offer opinions, and critically evaluate "the way things are" and "the ways things could be".  Nominees should be willing to work for community action and change, despite resistance or limited resources; of any education level; preferably with no prior experience in similar training programs; be proficienty in spoken English and be at least 30 years old as of 1 October 2017.

What kind of funding support does the program offer?

The program will cover travel costs to and from the workshop venue, lodging and meals for selected participants.

When do the workshops take place?

The four-day workshops will occur in February 2018, one each in Ebeye (RMI), Kosrae (FSM), Yap (FSM), and Palau.  Dates will be set as participant selections are finalized (15 November 2017), and participants will be issued official letters of acceptance in order to notify employers.
