The 2023 East-West Center Annual Report highlights the commitment and dedication of the EWC community over the last year. After developing a renewed strategic plan for the Center in 2022, EWC leadership and staff focused on translating the strategy’s action plans into reality. Highlights of the year included welcoming the Center’s largest cohort of new degree students in more than two decades, hosting a number of high-level diplomatic convenings, launching a range of new research and professional development fellowships, and much more.

The 20-page Annual Report includes:

  • A message from the East-West Center president and Board of Governors chair highlighting resilience as a key theme of the Center’s work
  • A map of participant data for the year
  • Feature articles showcasing key programs, activities, and events, arranged according to the Center’s five strategic pillars: Developing and Equipping Leaders, Convening Impactful Dialogues, Partnering with the Pacific Islands, Fostering Environmental Solutions, and Supporting Good Governance
  • Spotlight profiles sharing the journeys and accomplishments of a few of EWC’s many exceptional participants and alumni
  • Metrics on EWC’s revenue and expenses, along with public engagement
  • Year-end messages from the Center’s Alumni Engagement office and fundraising Foundation.

“The Center’s mission of better relations and understanding remains more important than ever amid troubled global times, and this past year has been marked by significant progress in amplifying our efforts,” EWC President Suzanne Vares-Lum said in presenting the Annual Report. “This report serves as a testament to the remarkable people and programs that have propelled the Center's vital work forward. We are excited about the journey ahead and look forward to making a lasting difference together.”
